1. tray, rectangular board with an edge on all sides; painted dark gloss blue
2,3. archway with corner pillars, the arch is painted gloss red
At each corner is a pillar painted gloss grey. The pillars taper to a point.

4,5. staircase, cut to show four steps; painted gloss red

6-9. stair sides, sloped top painted gloss red with a pillar at the short end; pillars match those on the archways

10-13. hedges, double rounded top edge with a pillar at one end; one side painted gloss dark blue, the other gloss green with the pillars red
Ht. 4½ x 6in x ½in (11.4 x 15.3 x 1.2cm)
14-25. grass or reeds, 12, painted dark gloss green. Each piece is cut with a double toothed edge at the top. Each point is cut slightly to the right side.

*26-37. bank sides; 12 panels in two colours of gloss green (one light and the other dark) and in 3 different sizes and shapes. All have one straight side painted tan brown. The shapes are basically triangular with one side slightly wavy.

| Object history | References: A wooden craft toy designed and made by Ted Vincent who was on the Crafts Council register of Toy Makers but not a member of the Toy Makers Guild. It is an imaginative and original constructional puzzle toy. Purchased by the donor from Hitchcock's, 10 Chapel Row, Bath, BA1 1HN, for the sum of £138.70 on April 30, 1990 (received May 2, 1990). It was been donated in memory of Rosamund Wight, died September 1989, and Elizabeth Murdoch, died April 1991, both past member of staff at Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood. |
