Small wall-hung candle sconces often had mirrors to reflect candle-light into the room.
Thomas Chippendale included designs for such asymmetrical rococo sconces, which he called 'Gerandoles' in the Gentleman and Cabinet-makers Director (3rd ed 1762 plates CLXXVI and CLXXVII)
