Mahogany armchair; the open back is composed of a curved top-rail, two uprights continuous with the back legs and carved with volutes. In the centre is a lyre-shaped panel pierced with three shaped openings. The cabriole front legs are carved above with leaf ornament and terminate in hairy lions' feet, while the back legs have club feet. The moveable seat is stuffed and has a modern covering of red moreen.

Object history
Purchased in 1898 from Charles H Marshall , The Avenue, East Retford, with a large number of other items. It was described as one of '3 Chippendale Chairs' each with claw feet and different one from the other acquired at the same time. All three chairs were formerly in the Library of Mr Marshall but the provenance prior to this is unknown.A second of the 3 is 216-1898.
A fourth chair described as ' Chippendale Chair with beautifully carved legs nupholstered with old embossed leather' from the Drawing Room was also bought by the Museum.
