Brief description | Mahogany with leather upholstery, England, 1750-60. RF:78/1949 |
Physical description | Chair of mahogany; the open back is composed of two uprights, which curve towards each other at the top and have a band of leaves between them; the voluted ends of the uprights rest upon a central openwork ornament consisting of two curved and interlacing bands. The front cabriole legs are carved above with leaves, and have hoof feet, also decorated with leaves. The movable seat is stuffed and covered with red morocco. Object history | Purchased from W Williamson & Sons, Guildford as part of set of three with one armchair. No prior history known. On loan to the Judges' Lodgings Museum, Lancaster, from 1978. The armchair and second chair were sent to the Dublin Museum of Science and Art. |
