Sewn leather bottle (also referred to as a ‘costrel’ or ‘bottell’), with large rims and a central opening in the centre of the top seam. Features circular 'daisy' stamped decoration irregularly placed across the main body of the bottle and the letters I S repeated. Either side of the opening at the top is a lug hole for a strap by which to carry the bottle. Stopper no longer present.

Physical description
Sewn leather bottle (also referred to as a ‘costrel’ or ‘bottell’), with large rims and a central opening in the centre of the top seam. Features circular 'daisy' stamped decoration irregularly placed across the main body of the bottle and the letters I S repeated. Object history
Purchased for £2 from William Downing Webster (1863-1913), Oxford House, Bicester, Oxon (RF 97130/1895). Webster was Collector of Ethnological Specimens, European and Eastern Arms and Armour. Assigned to FWK dept.
Attributed as 'English, 17th century'

On long loan to the National Trust at Dyrham Park (1968 - before 1990)
