Bought for £10 from a Mr R. Carter of 36 Spring Street, Surrey Gardens (London), 'cracked and many pieces of inlay missing'. In his art referee report (RP/1870/19189, 29 April 1870) Sir M. Digby Wyatt noted 'This is a beautiful specimen, very cheap, and of extraordinarily fine & all[sic] handwork. It is earnestly recommended for purchase.'
