Rolled paperwork, coloured and gilt, with a background of red silk, in a black and gold frame of carved wood. The motif depicts the royal arms of England as borne by Queen Anne after the union with Scotland in 1707, with a mantling of formal leafwork. The motto 'Semper Eadem' is decorated with a rose and thistle. The whole is bordered with two rows of semi-circles with spiral ornaments divided by rosettes.

Featured in 'The Connoisseur', vol. xxv, Jan. 1913, p. 38.

A somewhat similar panel was sold at Christies, June 23rd 1921, for 20 guineas. It was inscribed 'Mary Smith, December ye 16, 1713'.
After the Restoration, the art of rolled paper-work underwent a revival which reached its height during the first quarter of the 18th century. Heraldic themes such as this one were particularly popular.
