A tapestry-woven band in purple wool and undyed linen (both s-spun). Includes weft loop pile. Egyptian, ca. AD400-600. The band is selvedge at one end. At this end is a solid block of colour with a yellow, geometric icon at the centre (face? fish?). This leads to a tree that extends the length of the band. The tree has branches and leaves at regular intervals. It is bordered with a solid line on either side and the a geometric border of triangles/pyramids with leaves/small trees filling the spaces between. On one side the weft loop pile starts approx. 15mm out from the band. There are holes along the piece.
