Place of origin |
This square panel once decorated either the lower part of a tunic or a hanging. At the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries an enormous quantity of textiles were excavated at various sites in Egypt. At that time the primary purpose for digging was to find previously unknown artefacts which were sold as novelties to museums and collections all over the world. The focus was on the decorative parts of the textiles and these were simply cut away from the tunics or hangings, making the identification of orginial use difficult today.
