This gown represents the growing trend toward informality that began in the early 1960s and became more pronounced by the end of that decade. The coreseted waists and bell-shaped skirts of the 1950s and the trim, tailored silhouette of the early-to-mid 1960s were replaced by a flowing, draped line. The loose fit of the colourful kaftan became a fashionable eveningwear choice. Gayle Hunnicutt wore this kaftan-shaped gown to a ball at Windsor castle in the early 1970s, an event that she described as 'thrilling and exciting'. In addition Hunnicutt modelled it for the October 1973 issue of British Vogue.(25/07/2012)
