Label for the exhibition: "The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014" EVENING DRESS FOR AVA GARDNER Sorelle Fontana, about 1960 Wool Located just off Rome’s Spanish Steps, couture house Sorelle Fontana catered to the Italian elite along with a host of Hollywood celebrities. Actress Ava Gardner was among their most loyal clients. The Fontana sisters designed film costumes for Gardner as well as private commissions such as this wool crêpe dress.
