Carpet with wavy, weed like flowers and ears of corn closely packed across the carpet. Scattered between them are birds, butterflies, insects, mushrooms and geometric motifs. The carpet is lined with a border consisting of a row of truncated lozenge shapes each lined with stiff flower heads containing a single plant. Single plants also decorate the interstices between the lozenges and the outer edge of the carpet. The flowers are in shades of green, white, blue, pink and red ofr a field of varying shades of reddish-brown. The truncated lozenges are an orange and brown in colour and the outer edges of the carpet are more of a yellow tint. There is a decoratively knotted warp fringe.

Historical context | According to the donor, this carpet originates from the province of Oltenia and was made in the Arts and Crafts School of Jassy. Jassy is in Moldavia, not Oltenia (West Walanchia), but the pattern of the carpet is of the Oltenia type. |
