Object history
Mudéjar carpets are some of the earliest to have survived from Spain. They were sought after by Iberian Christians and used to decorate palaces and churches. While here a Mudéjar design occupies the large central field, in the form of lions and palmettes, the border of winged dragons shows the new influence of Renaissance inspired motifs. This allows such carpets to be dated to the first half of the sixteenth century. (M. Rosser-Owen, 2010).
