Place of origin |
Tapestry woven carpet, and extending about 18 inches wide around the edge is a border of strapwork panels with rococo ornament. At the centre sides, top and bottom are more elaborate cartouches containing polychrome flowers in pinks, browns and greens.
Within the border is a white ground with bead-and-reel edging, almost covered by an inner ground, curved at the corners, of pale green-brown with a diaper of pink four-petalled flower heads on a lattice. In the centre is an elaborate cartouche wreathed with flowers holding a coat-of-arms, round in shape, with gules and on a bend argent three crosses gules, with argent dashes following the curve of the outer edge except where cut by the bend. Above this is a jewelled circlet wound three times with a strand of pearls, showing five pearls on each appearance, and the coronet of a continental baron.
Warp count 13 to inch.
