He was created Lieutenant-Général de Police in Paris in 1697 and was nominated Conseiller d'État after he successfully calmed the mob during the riots of 1709 and took measures to distribute what grain there was fairly. Both these offices are alluded to in the design of the medallion which includes cornucopia and other emblems of fertility as well as of justice and the arts.
