Belt

ca. 1900 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Belt of tablet-woven wool and cotton. A broad centre stripe of plain red wool is flanked by narrow stripes with fancy fillings in yellow, red, two shades of green, black and white. The tablet-woven band is doubled to form the belt proper, which is strengthened with leather at the points where the two buckles and two leather straps are attached. The sides of this belt is over sewn in a chevron pattern of pink and green.

The top half of the double band continues past with the leather strap to form a softly falling sash. At its end, the warp threads are tightly bound in yellow, red, green and white to form a lattice pattern within a triangle, from the point of which the warp falls in loose twists making a long tassel.
