Physical description

Embroidered cross-orphrey. The orphrey is embroidered with coloured silks and silver gilt thread with the use of split and encroaching satin stitches which are of raised, laid and couched work. The figures are worked on separate pieces of linen and applied. A series of saints are under the arches, each arch being set withn a red and blue border. From top to bottom, the figures are as follows; Christ blessing the Virgin and Child; a female saint who is crowned holding a palm, St Peter holding keys, St. James the Great with a hat and staff, St Philip holding some loaves, an abbess and a male saint with a sword.
