Nesting Dolls
1994 (made)

The nesting dolls consist of 13; twelve are in two halves and the last is very small and whole. The dolls are graded in size and one fits inside another. All the dolls are slightly different but painted in the same colours - an olive green decorated with white; pink; red; light green; black; orange; brown and emerald green to indicated the clothing; flowers; fruit and a cat. The theme of the girl; cat; fruit and flowers is repeated but all in slightly changing stances.

Collection was presented to BGM by the Traditional Sergiev Cultures Centre; following an exhibition at the Cambridge Folk Museum; September 1994. The items are modern; made to the traditional designs and methods by craftsmen whose families had produced the toys before
1900.
