Commemorative handkerchief of plate-printed cotton. The narrow undecorated border is red. The design is printed in black on undyed cotton and shows 53 pictures of the Holy Roman Emperors. The central and largest being the portrait of Wilhelm I King of Prussia. Not hemmed along the top and bottom edges.

| Object history | Registered File number 1992/202. Transferred from PDP in 1964, formerly numbered 25242. Wilhelm I King of Prussia in the centre was crowned German Emperor in 1871 at the close of the Franco-Prussian War. This illustrious lineage must have been designed to add weight to his claim to the throne of a united Germany. |
