Object history
Registered File number 1987/136.

The embroidery came from Highcliffe Castle, built for Lord Stuart de Rothesay in the 1820s. He was said to have brought the bed set in 1816, when he was Ambassador in Paris, and as having belonged to Marie Antoinette. The set was still complete in 1955 when it was exhibited in the Marie Antoinette Exhibition at the Chateau de Versailles (No. 723).
