Sampler of embroidered linen with coloured silks in cross-stitch, Algerian eye-stitch, back stitch and satin stitch. The top half is taken up with numerous versions of the alphabet. In the lower half are the initials 'RI' (three times) and 'SI' (twice) and the date '1739'. The rest of the space is occupied by various motifs, and prominent are a sailing ship, flowering trees, people in a horse and trap, and a man holding a horse by long reins.
