Physical description

Cape of red silk velvet, embroidered with silver-gilt thread and strips, pieces of foil and spangles. There is a repeating border of rococo scrollwork and floral devices. The main part of the cape is covered with a diaper of small floral and leafy stems and butterflies within pointed compartments formed by wavy bands with rosettes at the intersections. Along the bottom is a fringe of twisted silver-gilt thread, and at the neck a loop of plaited crimson silk cord with a fringed tassel. There is a cream-coloured silk lining (much torn).
