Tapestry woven wool. Egyptian; Oxyrhynchus, ca. AD400-600. A section of a band, probably from a tunic clavi. The background is undyed. The band is bordered on each side by a line of floral U shaped design (using slit tapestry) and a thick black line. The interior of the band uses black and bright purple with motifs of a human holding a staff in one hand and a bird. At the base of the band are stripes in black and undyed wool, leading to selvedge. The piece is frayed along the other edges and dirty.
