Scarf
ca. 1900 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Scarf of bobbin lace with a repeating pattern of curved stems each beating a leaf, with a series of loops attached to one side, which form the scalloped edges. In the centre are a series of eight-petalled flowers linked by stylised leaves. At either end is a curved, serrated edged medallion enclosing a large leaf.
The parts of the pattern are worked in cloth stitch with a little half stitch work. All the pieces are edged with a gimp thread and some leaves have raised veins of bundles of couched threads. The parts of the pattern are linked by slender plaited brides some with picots.
