Collar and Cuff

1875-1900 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Collar and single cuff of needle lace. Worked with a fine thread and there are areas of very delicate fillings as well as close buttonholing and rather over-heavy raised work. The bars are decorated with picot loops and the edges are worked with open work vandycks of picot bars. The straight band cuff is made 'en suite'.

The pattern develops symmetrically outwards from the centre back with exotic flower heads in the Venetian style linked by short stems. The Baroque scrollwork of Venetian lace is not attempted.
