Place of origin

Tapestry panel woven in coloured silks and silver thread on a cotton warp. The design is that of a prayer mat or rug with a mirhab at one end. The central field and middle border have silver grounds, the outer border a red silk ground, and the inner border a green one. On the two outer borders there are flowers alternating with a silver petalled mofif, and on the inner border there are silver scrolls. In the centre a lamp hangs from the mirhab and this is flanked by two cypress trees in silver outlined in green. There is a bunch of flowers in each of the lower corners. The panel is very finely woven, with 26-30 warp threads to the inch though the green, purple and mauves are characteristically aniline dyes.
