Embroidered sampler of silk darning on linen. With a central embroidered motif in yellow, green and pink silks of two rose buds on one stem worked in outline chain and darning stitch as a filling. There are four similarly embroidered floral sprigs, two with blue flowers (possibly periwinkle) and two red arranged around this. The embroiderers's name 'Eliza Church' and the date '1774' is embroidered in black silk in back stitch below the central motif. Eight crosses are worked in silk and in each corner are natural linen arranged round the edge of the crosses and worked in a combination of blue and yellow, red and green, pink and yellow and red/pink and cream. The hem has a drawn thread edging on four sides.
