  • Decorated with the title of a poem by François Villon (b.1431) this goblet is one of several which Gallé made, using Villon's poetry as inspiration. The theme of mediaeval legend was first featured in a Gallé display at the 1884 exhibition of the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs. The two dates on this goblet probably celebrate both the 1884 first showing of the type and the 1900 exhibiton at which this particular piece was displayed.
