Object history note
Worn by Viscountess Gladstone during winter 1910-11 in South Africa, where she was the wife of the first Governor General of South Africa. She was photographed wearing this dress with the hat T.157-1937, the photograph shows that the skirt originally had a train and was fuller, but has since been altered to the fashionable hobble skirt silhouette and the train removed
