Physical description

White muslin embroidered in white thread in buttonhole, cross, chain, darning, shadow and drawn fabric stitches with some eyelet holes. Along the bottom is a border of formalised daisies and leafy C-scrolls. Along the top at each side is a short section of the same pattern, incorporating three C-scrolls only. In between each line of pattern is a line of berries alternating with long leaves. There is a border of scallops worked in button-hole stitch around the outside of the embroidered section. The date 1765 is worked in pink cross-stitch in the centre of the panel at the top. Along three sides is a narrow border of Valenciennes lace with a pattern of intertwining wavy stems bearing formalised leaves.
