A man's coat and waistcoat of uncut and voided blue silk velvet in an abstract floral trail. The coat has a round neckline, bound with a narrow strip of velvet. The two-piece, shaped sleeves widen at the bottom and end between elbow and wrist, with wide, deep ( 15.5 cm at top, 17.5 cm at bottom) closed cuffs. The coat is cut to fit the torso, curving from neck to hem. The skirts below the hip are arranged in one pleat (13 cm) in the front at the sides. There is an inverted pleat on each side of the opening at centre back. There is a scalloped pocket flap at hip level on each front. There is a pocket flap at hip level on each front, but no corresponding pockets. The coat is lined with white silk; the front edges and pleats interlined, probably with buckram. There are ten velvet-covered buttons on the right front, from neck to hip, with corresponding buttonholes on the left. There are 3 uncut buttonholes on the pocket flaps and 3 velvet buttons on the coat below. The top of the cuffs have 3 uncut buttonholes and 3 velvet buttons stitched to the sleeves. There is a velvet button at the top of the pleats on each side.
The waistcoat is made of 2 fronts of pieced velvet and 2 backs of fustian with velvet skirts. The neckline is round and bound with a narrow strip of velvet. The waistcoat is cut close to the torso with wide skirts below the hip, reaching between mid-thigh and knee. The two-piece, shaped sleeves of pieced velvet reach to the wrist with a slit opening. There is a scalloped pocket flap at hip level on each front, but no pockets. The fronts and back skirts are lined with fustian, the sleeves are lined and he front edges faced with white silk. The edges and sides of the fronts are intelined, probably with linen tape. Ten smaller, velvet-covered buttons on the right front from neck to hip, correspond with 10 buttonholes on the left side. One very small velvet button and buttonhole fasten the sleeves at the wrist. Two sets of narrow linen tape are sewn to the back above the waist.
