Object history
Purchased from Mrs J. A. Hjaltalin of Notting Hill for £2.10. Her husband, Dr J. A. Hjaltalin, has translated several Icelandic sagas into English.

The date of receipt of this garment is the same week that WIlliam Morris' diaries record him as returning to the UK from a trip to Iceland with Mr Magnússon (whose wife sold the museum the ensembles 357 to 358-1870). During this trip, the diaries record him as going to dinner at the Hjaltalin family home in Iceland.
