Women’s shoes of the middle decades of the 18th century featured a pointed toe with curved soles and heels. This pair is made of green silk, decorated with parallel rows of a narrow, woven silk lace (braid). They would have been fastened over the instep with silver buckles. Until the 19th century, shoes were not specially shaped to fit the right or left foot and the sole of each of these shoes is identically shaped.

Physical description
Pair of women’s shoes made of green silk satin, trimmed with parallel rows of narrow green silk lace [braid]. They have carved wooden heels, leather soles and a white leather rand between upper and sole. The tongue, quarters and latchets are edged with green silk grosgrain ribbon.
