Place of origin |
Dress made of silk with a dark cream ground and a large, undulating brocaded pattern of formal floral and leafy trails stretching across the entire width of the silk bound in 1\3 twill. The flowers are in shades of maroon and blue, the foliage in green and brown.
The dress, perhaps formerly an open robe, with an English back has been much altered and approximates to an overdress ca. 1885 with the back gathered to accommodate a small bustle. The neck is low and square edged with a double pleated band of self material. The sleeves are elbow length and the cuff band is trimmed with a pink, scalloped band. The bodice fastens in the front with hooks and eyes and the back is linen lined.
