Pair of Shoe Trees

ca. 1900 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Pair of shoe trees. The toe is made of boxwood, shaped to a narrow rounded point. The trees are not straights but are differently shaped for the left and right foot. To a hinge, which is attached through a notch cut in the toe-piece at the instep, is attached a metal screw rod with a wooden boss at one end and a metal bar handle at the other. This can be adjusted for length according to size so that the bar handle supports the back of the shoe and forces the top piece into the correct position to support the front of the shoe.
There is a printed oval label stuck inside the hollow under the left toe piece.
