Sampler of embroidered woollen canvas with coloured silks in cross stitch, tent stitch and Algerian eye stitch. At the top is a row of flower and tree motifs with a verse about woman's virtues. The rest of the sampler is filled with numerous motifs of different sizes arranged around the Tree of Knowledge, with Adam and Eve and the Serpent. Inscribed at the bottom with 'Jane Bailey her work, January 27th, 1830'. Continuous border all round of pink flowers and buds united by a wavy dark green line. Backed with yellow crêpe.
