Place of origin

Petticoat made of white cotton lawn. Waist to ankle-length and made with a straight front breadth, a gored panel at each side and two at the back. It is smoothly attached to the waistband and there are darts at the centre front and at each side of the back to shape it smoothly to the hips. There is a flounce at the hem and another is attached just below knee level with a hem stitched border to which is attached a more tightly gathered flounce. Each of these flounces is trimmed with bands of tucking (pin-tucks) alternating with inserted bands of machine-made lace in a 'Bucks' type pattern. It has a plaquet at the centre back and fastens with a pearl button. It is hand-stitched and has hanger loops.
