Place of origin

Double-cloth carpet fragment of a large pattern with a leaf motif in a cartouche formed by crossed diagonals forming large diamond shapes.

Thin and sinuous warp in buff and white cotton, and thick woollen weft in brownish purple with black, orange with white, and laid as alternative threads. Where the colour systems mingle, a closely woven fabric is achieved, where an inch of pure double cloth occurs, and one contrasting thread is brought through to the other side to tie the two sides together.
