Cover

19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Embroidered cotton cover made from four headscarves joined with lace insertions and trimmed with bobbin lace edging. Each scarf is a square of white cotton embroidered in one corner with a solid block of flowers and leaves in black silk. The embroidery extends down two sides. The opposite corner is undecorated, but there is a small black floral motif in the other two corners. The scarf would originally have been trimmed with the type of cotton bobbin lace which has been used to edge this cover. The four scarves, which are not identical in design, have been joined with a broad cotton insertion so that the embroidered corners form the centre of the cover.
