Necklace

ca. 1970 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This necklace was acquired for display, along with other similar jewellery pieces, in the exhibition Street Style, From Sidewalk to Catwalk, 1940 to Today held at the V&A in 1994-5. Though its designer and maker are unknown, it is an excellent example of the 1970s jewellery inspired by the natural world. The raw materials of leather, wood, stones, and shells along with the natural shapes of the beads would have appealed to the earth-conscious hippie generation of the 1970s.
