Though descended from the European figures of Saint Nicholas and Father Christmas, Santa Claus in his modern form first appeared in mid-twentieth-century American adverts for Coca Cola. In this card by a South Korean manufacturer for a Japanese publisher, a telling product of the postwar global economy, American iconography meets old and new Asian skill in paper crafts and electronic microchip technology.
