COCKTAIL DRESS AND PETTICOAT
Irene Galitzine, about 1955
Silk and nylon net
By the early 1960s, British women, following their American and European counterparts, began to embrace Italian style. This dress was purchased by Londoner Caroline Colthurst. Slightly bolder in her fashion choices than most British consumers, Colthurst became familiar with Italian fashion when she was an assistant to the fashion writer Ernestine Carter of the Sunday Times.
