Carpet of knotted wool pile.
Field Design: Two panels separated by a horizontal band containing three crosses. Each panel is divided into small diamonds, some are solid colours and others contain a small blossom. The design in the lower panel was incorrectly woven.
Inner Border: Red/yellow and red/green triangles on white. No outer border, just a red knot.
Main Border: Angular blossoms on blue.
There is a trader's label in the lower right hand corner indicating that it was sold through Marrakesh.
Warp: Yellow Z2S wool in right half and dark brown Z2S wool in left half. 9 threads/inch (4/cms).
Weft: Yellow or orange wool: 8 shoots after each row of knots; 5-6 sets/inch (2-3/cms).
Pile: Wool. Eight colours: dark brown, grey, yellow green*, red*, cream, blue, faded purple*.
* Synthetic dyes
Side Finish: Two cords woven with the weft.
End Finish: Lower: weft loops secured with cream wool ending with a plait. 6 cms of kelim in red and then yellow with a wavy line marking the division. There are decorative four rows in white and brown.
Upper: as lower but with a warp fringe instead of secured loops.
