Sunhat of plaited straw, lined and edged with painted and dyed cotton in a pattern of double bamboo stems bearing pointed leaves and various flowers in white, blue and green on a deep red ground.

This type of straw sunhat was intended to be worn over a large lace hat of similar style as part of traditional Frisian dress. The hat would be kept in place with two ribbons at the back.
