Design for cabaret artistes at the Danny La Rue Club, showing nine full length figures, from left, a female dancer dressed only in ropes of 'leaves' and a brown fig leaf, a male dancer in white combinations with a brown fig leaf, a harem girl in Turkish trousers and brassiere top, a 'caveman' figure in a leopard skin tied on the shoulder, a female dancer in a white, tight fitting, sleeveless dress and a high crowned hat, a female dancer (slavegirl?) in a white, strapless 'leotard' and a headdress with a flowing white veil, holding two ropes attached to a collar round her neck, a male Roman soldier, a female figure in a tight, full length, yellow sleeveless dress and an Egyptian headdress (Cleopatra?) and a 'Lady Godiva' with long fair hair tied in bunches. The design is painted on black card and is signed and dated and inscribed with the name of the venue.

This is one of a collection of designs for pantomime and cabaret, given to the Theatre Museum by the designer, Cynthia Tingey, who created the costumes for 15 of the annual London Palladium pantomimes. This design was made for a cabaret at the Danny La Rue Club, London, in 1966.

Historical significance: An example of cabaret costume design of the second half of the 20th century and of the work of a designer who specialised in pantomime and variety design.
