Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This abstract sculpture of unglazed stoneware by Yun Yo-sung was one of 12 pieces donated by their makers to the V&A in 1994. These were chosen by eminent Korean potter and professor Shin Sang-ho, whose own work the Museum has been collecting since 1991.

The sculpture comprises four parts, in which the artist has explored the malleable qualities of the clay by piercing, kneading and gouging. When assembled, the upright rectangular slab of clay at one end of the sculpture is linked to an upright disc of clay at the other by a semi-circular section of clay that slots over a long rectangular section.
