Carpet of "Transylvanian" type. Red ground with a white ground central medallion containing a blue medallion with a central red roundel. Floral motifs based on blossoms and leaves decorate these medallions and the corners of the field. The inner and outer borders have flowers and spots on a white ground. The main border has yellow and red cartouches on a white ground. There are no corner solutions at the top.
Warp: white wool dyed red towards the ends (about 2" at the top and 12" at the bottom). It may then have been re-dyed brown; Z2S; 17 threads per inch (70 per dm).
Weft: white wool; spin and twist uncertain; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 8 rows of knots per inch (30/dm).
Pile wool; 5 colours: red, yellow, blue, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around two threads; 8/knots/sq. inch (1050/sq. dm).
Side finish: incomplete; remains of yellow wool overcasting.
End finish: missing.
