This pincushion is oblong, slightly pointed in the corners, and covered with a white satin damask. The upper side is stuck with white metal pins (the usual type at this date with heads made separately and applied) in a pattern consisting of central flowers and four small hearts in the corners. The back is inscribed in pins 'STUCK 1745' and there is a double row of pins surrounding the edges of the pincushion.

Object history | It is sometimes stated that these pincushions were given as christening presents. Other examples in the collections are 913-1907 (dated 1652), T.118-1927 (dated 1701), and T.49-1918 (dated 1797 and inscribed J.W. Welcome Sweet Babe). |
