This ring was described as 16th-century Italian when it was acquired by the Museum in 1894. Its general appearance suggests that it may be Asian in origin

Physical description

Heavy gold ring with a conical bezel set with a central diamond surrounded by numerous other gems in a symmetrical pattern which runs down over each shoulder. The stones are separated by beaded strips which continue round the outside of the shank.
