The group bears some relationship to the work of the Bolognese sculptress Properzia dei Rossi (d. 1530).

Physical description

In the centre is the seated Virgin, head covered with a veil. She is supporting the dead body of Christ. To the right, touching the head of Christ with her right hand and supporting his left arm with her left, kneels St. Mary Magdalen, and to the left is St. John the Evangelist.
